There are many reasons why the key fob could not perform as it should, including a dead coin battery damage to the receiver module or signal interference. This article will walk you through the steps needed to get it back to working.
The KeyLab
If your key fob for the seat alhambra survives washing cycles or a dip in an water or a pool, it has a waterproof chip. However, don't do it often as excessive exposure to water increases the likelihood of the key fob becoming damaged. If your key fob ceases to functioning after exposure to rain or clean tap water, unplug the battery and wipe the electronic component using a towel. Allow it to dry completely before replacing the battery. If you are exposed to soapy or salty water it is recommended that you clean the chip with alcohol, isopropyl or electronic cleaner before attempting to put the battery back in.
Faulty Receiver Module
If the key fob will not lock or unlock after you have replaced the battery for the button it is possible that the receiver module has an issue. The good thing is that this is a simple and inexpensive repair, you can simply remove the battery 12 volts for a few minutes (first take off the negative cable and then press the horn button a few times) to eliminate any remaining electricity and then reconnect it in reverse order e.g. positive first, then negative cable later.
ESP Warning Light – If the ESP symbol is flashing, this is normal. It means that you are driving over terrain with poor traction. This could be caused by snow, gravel or surface water. If the ESP light is constantly on, it means that there is a fault in the system. It can be detected by using an iCarsoft i908 seat OBD code reader kit. It will provide you with a a detailed fault description.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead battery for the coin is among the most frequent causes for the seat alhambra keys to stop working. The key fob is powered by a small button-cell battery. It is recommended to replace it with a new one that has the same voltage, size and specifications as the original. When replacing the battery on the key fob remove the metal clips and make sure that the contacts of the key fob are in good condition and free of corrosion.
If the key fob was exposed to water (such as soapy tap water) it is recommended that you remove and clean the chip using an electronic cleaner or isopropyl ethanol prior to installing a new battery. The chip could be permanently damaged by moisture. If the key fob still not working after replacing the battery, it could be necessary to replace the entire key fob.
Faulty Receiver Module
If your key fob stopped functioning after replacing the battery but it did not work, or stopped working abruptly the receiver module could have experienced a malfunction. The receiver module is able to receive radio frequency signals from your remote keyfob and transforms them into electrical signals that are then followed by other modules inside the car.
If the receiver module has developed a fault, it will not respond to any of the commands issued by your remote key fob. In this case, you will have to visit a dealer to reprogramme your key fob as well as a new receiver module.
The key fob comes with rubber seals that block water from getting into the chip inside. If you immerse the key fob into salty or soapy water, it could cause damage to the chip. If your key fob isn't able to function, you can try cleaning the chip using isopropyl or an electronic cleaner.
If the keys are paired but the receiver module has developed a fault you can try to reboot all of the electronics on board by removing the battery with 12 volts for a short period of time. Then, reconnect the battery in reverse order (negative cable first before positive). This will reset the on-board electronic circuits and restore their functionality.
A malfunctioning electronic chip
The key fob is fitted with a chip that transmits an indication from the key to the receiver module each time the key is used. If the signal doesn't match the one that the car has stored, the immobilizer will disable and stop the vehicle from starting. If, however, the key fob isn't functioning and you are not able to reprogram it this could be due to a malfunctioning chip.
The chip inside the key fob may need to be changed in order to make it function properly. This can be done by taking the key fob out of its housing, and then using a needle or pin to touch each metal clip. If these are corroded or damaged, you'll require replacement to allow the remote control to function. Make sure that the replacement batteries have the same size, voltage and specification as the original.
